How to break addictions? (Cell phone, social media, video games)

(This blog is written by writer to only teenagers and youths. This blog will not tell you to not to use cell phone or social media rather how to use it efficiently or if you are not using it efficiently writers advice are written below).


We all know about different kinds of addictions that teenagers and youths get addicted to. Majority is social media, video games. In this blog I write about some easy steps on how to break these addictions.


In my opinion addiction is something that lets you lose control over your own mind, thoughts, emotions and makes you physiologically get attached to the things that you get addicted to. It will not be wrong if I say, the youths of the current generation might survive without basic necessities of life but cannot live without phones and social media. But still it's wrong to blame social media because they are created for a good cause but it is in the hands of users to either make right use or the opposite. Not just cell phones, anything on the earth, if the advantages and disadvantages are not correctly analyzed and used Of course they will have a major impact on our lives. Furthermore, whatever the things you use in your daily life make sure that you first understand the good and bad phase of it and use it rightly.


I hope the above introduction is enough for my topic. Let me shed light on some of my views regarding addictions to mobile phones.


If a person uses electronic devices for a long time we generally cannot conclude that he/she is addicted to it. Writers have to spend a maximum of their time typing their writings, posting, maintaining their accounts on social media, etc. Writers cannot imagine doing all these things without a cell phone but spending time on these I cannot say writers are addicted to it. Then whom do we call addicted?

1. Spending more time than required on a cell phone.

2. Not completing work on time.

3. Fully into cell phone thoughts.

4. Cannot stay longer without it.

5. Lack of sleep and discipline.

Many more……


How to give a full stop to these addictions?

Here are my few pieces of advice to break such addictions on mobile phones.


I have seen many teenagers and youths who delete social media apps when their exams are very near or in 10th or 12th grade. It's a good option but in my case as a writer deleting these apps seemed to be nonsense because if I delete, where will I post my writings? In such situations What should I do?


I advise you to not to delete the apps instead train your mind to not to get addicted to it.


If you are addicted to such things, first make a decision for yourself and tell yourself that you'll use it only for a certain period of time. I know the very next moment you'll get back to the same thing. Henceforth if you're using them for 2 hours the next day reduce the usage of time to 1 and half an hour. On the 2nd day try reducing the usage time to 1 hour. If you successfully do it. Cheer up! Appreciate yourself. Likely go on reducing the time each day slowly.


When you go on reducing the time spent, your mind will not easily agree and let you follow it. You feel like watching it again and again. To make your mind to follow the rules you can do the following things.


As soon as you come home from your school, college, work, check your mobile for only 5 minutes then after you freshen up stand in the balcony and look around the beautiful creation of God. Gaze up at the sky and nature around you. Take a few moments and thank God for everything. I assure you'll definitely feel happy and calm. Then talk to your family members and loved ones. After doing all these definitely you wish to check out your phone again. Yes! Do it. After using it as per schedule mentioned above, get back to your work again.


Even when you are studying or doing work you again feel like scrolling down the screen. At this time bring out The Art of Imagination within you. Imagine about the ambition you have, the dreams you want to achieve. If you do so again you'll awaken your mind to concentrate on your work.


Everyone has unique talents. One can use talents and hobbies to break addictions.

Start giving a little more time for your hobbies, talents, for the things you are passionate about. This will make your mind focus on your hobbies or interests so that you can divert your mind from scrolling down the phone unnecessarily. As soon as we wake up we immediately search for our mobile phones. But tomorrow morning when you wake up go and pick up your water bottle in spite of the phone. Drink water that's good for your health and you'll break your addiction as well. If you fail to do it after trying many times then my answer will be many people don't have the chance to wake up from bed in the morning but you are alive and seeing a new day. Holding the phone and scrolling down the reels as soon as you wake up,, is this your gratitude to God for adding another day in your life? Ask this question to yourself and only you can answer it.


Same follows with video game addiction.


Anybody can go on listing advice but the fact is that it is you who have become addicted to wrong things hence it is only you who can come out of it. If others follow discipline in their life it is for their life not for your life. For your life it is only you who have to be disciplined and have self control. I have mentioned my advice as listed above and I can add many more steps but let me challenge you to follow these steps first. If you can follow these simple steps then definitely you can follow many other right steps. Consider it as a challenge for yourself and do it.


The remote of your mind is in your hand. If you want it to go however it wants surely there will be a disaster. Make sure you SWITCH IT ON to walk on the right path and SWITCH IT OFF for wrong paths.

Decide today whether you want a disciplined life or undisciplined life. Choice is yours. Either addictions can break you or You can break addictions. Only two possibilities: you can choose any one. However the realization should come from within.
